MetaHumans

I've been working on a MetaHuman avatar/companion system for quite some time now, and I have wanted to integrate Daydream since I first started.

How it's working:

My method is actually very simple. I am using a media texture in UE that gets the .m3u8 HLS output from Daydream and displays it on a plane. With a few nodes I am able to position it wherever I choose, and when I send the text to speech, it automatically updates my Daydream prompt.

What's the use?

Daydream provides the perfect visual component for a background, not too distracting, but still immersive enough to capture the attention of the viewer. People can utilize this companion system to read, listen to, and watch their favorite books. Teachers can use this to create their own engaging course content. Wherever there is a need to provide visual stimuli, Daydream can help.

What's in the video?

The video features informational content on Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. It tells the whole story of what scientific discoveries the Voyagers have found, what's on board the probes, and their milestones. It is a prime example of what science teachers can produce on their own now.

You no longer need to be an Unreal Engine expert to create a MetaHuman scene in Unreal Engine with a background that immerses your viewers. The hard part is being worked on, and some of it is already finished.

Going Forward

There is so much you can do in Unreal Engine with Daydream, from utilizing the texture system, creating a live filter that updates based on prompts, using Daydream for interactive UI elements. The list goes on and on. As of right now my focus is on finishing Metahuman customization. However, I do want to add more Daydream features, and have already started working on some.

Here is Daydream being used as an overlay for the MetaHuman you saw in the video above. As you can imagine we can even incorporate gameplay, which I will demonstrate in the video below.
